Curio’s Free Jazz Nights

Drinks are up at the service bar

You may or may not know about the awesome jazz series going on in Curio. What started as a once a week option, is now rocking the icy-cool space beneath Gilt Bar twice a week. That’s right, both Monday and Tuesday nights there’s free live jazz in Curio. The craft cocktails are awesome, the setting is sleek and dark, and the music makes for a full tri-fecta. Jazz starts around 8:30pm and wraps up near 11:00pm. Here’s what’s up for your listening pleasure this week:

06/25/12  In his Curio debut as a leader, bassist Kurt Schweitz will be demonstrating the locally-forged free-form four-string chops he’s developed in the years since moving to our city to pursue a PhD in Mathematics at the University of Chicago.  Assisted by drummer Quin Kirchner, who’s been busy of late with his success in the BergmanFamily pop outfit Wild Belle, the rhythms will be melodically stabilized by Phil Doyleon tenor saxophone and the ever-futuristic EWI.

06/26/12  Back in town from NYC is one of our house favorites, Dave Miller.  It’s been a treat witnessing the evolution of his unique guitar sound over the last year, a style that’s grown into an intriguing blend of surf and bossa and Gabor Szabo and David Pajo.  His trio is backed again by Jeremy Cunningham (drums) and Clark Sommers (bass).

 is a free, Monday and Tuesday night jazz engagement at Curio, sous-sol beneath Gilt Bar (230 W Kinzie St Chicago Illinois 60654).
